Portions of the nuclear DNA of many modern humans have similarity to either Denisovan or Neanderthal nuclear DNA, however human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is more similar to Denisovan mtDNA than to Neanderthal mtDNA.  Why might this be the case?
◦ Modern humans are derived from matings between Neanderthal females and human males
◦ Modern humans are derived from matings between Denisovan females and human males
◦ Modern humans are derived from matings between Denisovan males and human females
◦ Modern humans are derived from matings between Denisovan females and Neanderthal males
◦ Modern humans are the common ancestors of both Denisovans and Neanderthals
