Answer to Question 1

True

Answer to Question 2

Among known technologies, nuclear energy, wherein sustained nuclear processes
generate electricity and heat, has often been championed as the leading alternative to
fossil-fuel dependence. Currently, existing nuclear plants provide about 19 percent of
America's electricity, and the United States is now spending billions of dollars to
enhance nuclear plants to ease its dependence on foreign suppliers that provide about
27 percent of the oil consumed in the United States. China is also increasing its nuclear
energy, building 27 new reactors and planning for almost 200 more, in order to meet its
demand for energy that is expected to triple by 2050.
