Am I doing your homework for you?
Great Britain is the island; the United Kingdom includes Northern Ireland. That is on another island.
Britain's separation from the European Continent resulted in many good things: The British people are mix of the best of many immigrants, i.e. the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings, the Normans (French), and more recently many Asian cultures: India, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, etc. The indigenous people of Britain are unknown, as even the Celts (or Kelts) came from somewhere else.
This makes for a rich and strong culture, with a flourishing middle class and a high standard of living.
The geography of Britain is very much like that of the West coast of France, as the English Channel only separates them by a few miles.
So, what you find in France (Brittany) you'll find in Britain: coal, fertile soil, a milder climate than further North in Scandinavia, Germany, or Russia.

This question is much too big to answer here. The separation of the Scots and the Welsh from the English by mountains, the closeness of Scandinavia and viking raiders, rain fall  brought on by the islands placement in the gulf stream, The isolation brought by water and freedom from invasion by the Spanish, and much later the Germans. The naval supremacy gained by the need to sail to do business. Really it would take books to fully answer, but I hope this is a start.

You need to do this homework yourself.  I'm not above helping, but if you don't work on this material on your own, or with a classmate or two, you'll be screwed come finals.
Good luck!
