Timothy O'Toole recently graduated from a teacher education program with a degree in elementary education and an emphasis in special education. He was a strong student in academics, enjoyed a successful student teaching experience in the fourth grade at the local elementary school, and is currently coaching basketball at the middle school. Mr. O'Toole received an invitation to interview for an elementary position in a small rural town approximately two hours away.

Master teachers stretch themselves through this process. They also must rethink what they are doing so they can explain and sometimes justify their behavior to someone else, learning about themselves in the process. As role models, master teachers continually strive to offer good examples. In addition, they gain an assistant or co-teacher in the classroom.
