- The family communication patterns model is based on the idea that communication in families can be described in terms of two dimensions:
* The level of conformity, which is the degree to which a family emphasizes embracing the same beliefs, values, and attitudes
* The level of conversation, which is the degree to which family members are encouraged to discuss any topic.

- Leader-member exchange (LMX) theory recognizes that supervisors develop different types of relationships with different subordinates, and seeks to explain those differences and their impact on subordinates' satisfaction and productivity.
* For example, supervisory relationships are formal and task oriented and leadership relationships are less formal and characterized by free-flowing information.
* In addition to higher job satisfaction, strong person-centered communication (PCC) and LMX relationships improve employee commitment, autonomy, and negotiation latitude, and benefit supervisors and organizations by reducing turnover and increasing productivity.
