In the process, each time students turn in a neatly written paper, Mrs. Oakes gives them a star. Mrs. Barber gives stars after they turn in three neatly done assignments in a row. They implement this process for a month and then they both stop giving the stars. Research patterns indicate which of the following is most likely to be correct?

First, recess provides the opportunity for students to exercise and blow off steam. And, lack of recess has been linked to childhood problems ranging from obesity to anxiety and hyperactivity Second, free play during recess also provides students with opportunities to interact with others that can contribute to cognitive, social, and emotional development. Time is the reason schools have cut back on recess. Many schools feel pressured to improve scores on high-stakes tests, so they allocate extra time to the areassuch as reading and maththat are covered on the tests, and the extra time often comes from recess.
