One rule stands above all when preparing a presentation - be as simple as possible. Several keys to effective presentations include the following:
(1) Be prepared
(2) Adapt to the audience
(3) Don't lecture or read to the audience
(4) Avoid research jargon and use short, familiar words
(5) Maintain eye contact
(6) Use graphic and other visual aids
(7) Use gestures
(8) Invite participation from the audience
