Answer to Question 1

A faulty assumption is reasoning that an event is a cause because it
preceded a particular effect.

Answer to Question 2

Two factors to observe, in particular, in writing a cause-and-effect
paragraph or essay are (1) to be sure to consider not only the most obvious
or simple causes but also the least obvious but contributing, and perhaps
more important, causes; and (2) to not mistake some event as a cause
simply because it preceded a particular effect.
