Answer 1

Both theme- and project-based learning stress integrating curriculum. There are many possible differences. One difference is that project-based learning revolves around children finding answers to their questions, while theme-based learning often revolves around activities related to the theme.

Answer 2

It is important that curriculum be developed based upon children's developmental levels, national and state standards, program philosophy, family and community beliefs and values, and the ability to provide a well-rounded curriculum that includes all domains and curriculum areas. While curriculum books can provide ideas, it is doubtful that just picking activities that look interesting and fun will meet the criteria needed for effective planning.
