Answer to Question 1

See Table 18.3 regarding Newborn Reflexes.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
Up to an initial 10 loss of weight can be expected in the first 3 to 4 days of life. This is typically regained by 2 weeks of age. Thereafter, a child's weight typically doubles around 4 to 6 months, triples at a year, and quadruples around age 2. During the first 6 months of life, a baby gains 5 to 8 ounces a week. Between 6 and 12 months, this decreases to 3 to 5 ounces a week. During the second year of life, a child gains 8 to 9 ounces a month. Toddlers and preschoolers gain 4.5 to 6.5 pounds a year. A school-age child gains 5 to 6 pounds a year. During the pubertal growth spurt, an average American female gains 38 pounds, and an average male gains 42 pounds.
