Using the figures above, explain the diffusion of and decline in global share of the U.S. share of both Internet and social media.

In 1995, most countries did not have Internet service and therefore the expectation would be that the United States would have more of the global share. However, as the technology diffused and was adopted by more and more people across the globe, the more global users necessarily produces a reduced share of U.S. users. Because Facebook and Twitter technology was launched from the United States, it follows that early adopters of the technology would be from the United States. However, given the greater access to the software and hardware technology, the diffusion of social media was accelerated compared to Internet. Social media adoption and trajectory is less geographically predictable compared to Internet and TV as the variable of technology infrastructure is less significant.
