Answer to Question 1


  • George, the man she was to marry, had failed to show up for the wedding. This blow to Ellens pride had left permanent scars even though Ellen had subsequently lived a full and useful life. It is hard to say whether her exacting, imperious, unforgiving ways resulted from the jiltingor caused it



Answer to Question 2


  • A flat character, the doctor is little more than a prop in this account of Grannys dying. There is no reason for him to be more than that, for it is Grannys life and death that we are meant to focus on.
