Answer to Question 1

Short-term effects of excessive alcohol use include increased risks of being in accidents, being involved in violent activity, or engaging in risky behaviors that can damage health in the long run. Alcohol can severely dehydrate body tissues, which can lead to the unpleasant symptoms of a hangover.
Long-term effects of excessive alcohol use include damage to almost every major organ system, and especially to the liver. A heavy drinker may develop fatty liver, which can progress to fibrosis and cirrhosis, which is irreversible damage. Alcohol can also prevent a person from consuming enough vitamins and minerals. The brain and heart can be affected as well. Heavy drinkers are more likely to develop dementia and have high blood pressure that can lead to enlargement of the heart.
