Description: The skin around the patient’s elbow was scrubbed with an orange antiseptic solution prior to surgery. The arthroscope was inserted into the elbow joint through a surgically created portal (opening in the skin). Other portals were used to insert instruments or remove fluid. A fiberoptic light and a magnifying lens on the arthroscope allow the surgeon to see inside of the joint, and the image is also displayed on a monitor in the operating room.
