| Description: In the sexual reproduction of all other fungal groups, hyphae fuse, allowing "gamete" nuclei to be transferred. In the ascomycetes and basidiomycetes, plasmogamy precedes karyogamy, with the result that a dikaryon is formed. This (n + n) dikaryotic condition is unique to the fungi.
