Description: Large ice sheets covered Canada and parts of the northern United States during the last glacial maximum 20,000 years ago. Shorelines were about 110 to 125 meters lower than today, and much of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic continental shelves were exposed plains with rivers and forests.
