Description: A change in osmolarity stimulates transcription of the micF gene. The transcript is largely complementary to a region in ompF RNA that includes the translational start site. Hairpin loops within the sequences allow base pairing between complementary regions on the two mRNAs, and in this way both transcripts are prevented from serving as templates for protein synthesis.
