Typical vein patterns in eudicot and monocot leaves
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Like umbrella ribs, stiffened veins help maintain leaf shape.
A) An Agapanthus leaf, with the parallel orientation of veins typical of monocots. Veins of monocot leaves are of similar length.
B) A grape leaf, with the netlike array of veins typical of eudicots. A stiffened midrib runs from the petiole to the leaf tip. Smaller veins branch from it.
