Description: If nondisjunction (the improper separation of chromosomes) occurs during meiosis, the eggs or sperm may have an incorrect number of chromosomes. If the germ cell with an improper number of chromosomes is fertilized, the resulting fetus will have the wrong number of chromosomes. This can lead to miscarriage or a live-born child with health problems. A cell containing two Xs divides into 2 cells, each containing 1 of the Xs. These each then divide, one containing the halves of the Xs and one containing nothing.
