Stages of sleep

Description: In the awake reading, the waves are very short and tightly spaced. In the sleep latency reading, the waves are taller, but even more tightly spaced. In the N 1 reading, the waves are about the same height as awake, but not as tightly spaced. Wider spaced waves are labeled theta waves. In the N 2 reading, the waves have much greater variation, both in height and in spacing. Tightly spaced waves are labeled sleep spindles and a high spike is labeled K complex. In the N 3 reading, the waves are very tall and the most widely spaced of all the readings. The waves are labeled Delta waves. The three N readings are all labeled N R E M sleep. In the R E M reading, the reading showing R E M sleep, the waves are fairly consistent in terms of height and width and are most similar to the N 1 waves. High jagged waves are labeled sawtooth waves.
