A researcher's theory that teaching the alphabet backwards shortens the time to learn letters was not found to be statistically significant. It could be that

An acrostic is a sentence made up of words derived from the first letters of items to be learned. Example: Richard of York gave battle in vain. Richard = red, of = orange, York = yellow, gave = green, battle = blue, in = indigo, and vain = violet. This mnemonic aids in learning the sequence of colors of the visible light spectrum.
