Answer to Question 1

The challenge for international marketing managers is to find the optimal distribution channel
to match the firm's unique competitive strengths and weaknesses with the requirements of
each national market it serves. The firm's distribution strategy can be an important component of its promotion strategy. For example, Toyota adopted different distribution strategies for its luxury cars in the United States and Japan. In the United States it named the model Lexus and set up an independent dealership network to strengthen the prestige of that brand name. In Japan, where the firm has less need to bolster its image, the same model is sold under the Toyota name through existing Toyota dealerships.
