Answer to Question 1

An ideal response will:
1, Note that both owners and reporters have ideological biases.
2, Note that reporters and journalists are more liberal than the owners and top managers of most news organizations, who tend to be conservative and Republican.
3, Note that cable news telecasts have provided a venue for the rise to prominence of politically conservative reporters such as Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.

Answer to Question 2

An ideal response will:
1, Choose one of the four themes and discuss how it affects the news. For nationalism, it is how foreign affairs news takes a pro-American stance. For approval of American economics, it is the tendency to run stories approving of free enterprise. For negativity and scandal, it is the tendency to seek and cover political scandals at length. For infotainment, it is the invasion of entertainment into political reporting.
2, Provide examples supporting the student's argument.
