Answer to Question 1

C
Feedback:
Older patients, and especially those with renal impairment, should be encouraged to maintain adequate hydration and salt intake. Decreased dosages may also be necessary with the elderly. A 70-year-old patient would not be concerned about the use of contraceptives. These drugs alone do not affect glucose levels. Weight loss is usually not associated with lithium use.

Answer to Question 2

B
Feedback:
When administering a drug, the nurse needs to consider the phases of pharmacokinetics so that the drug regimen can be made as effective as possible. Pharmacogenomics is the area of study that includes mapping of the human genome. Pharmacotherapeutic s is the branch of pharmacology that deals with the uses of drugs to treat, prevent, and diagnose disease. Pharmacoeconomics includes all costs involved in drug therapy.
