Answer to Question 1

Students might mention that very little empirical research has been conducted on this topic. In general, methods validated on students with learning disabilities are used with students with behavior disorders. Many educators recommend direct instruction programs and strategies for teaching students with emotional or behavior disorders.

Answer to Question 2

Students should mention the externalizing/internalizing dimension of this system. This should be followed by a description of externalizing (acting out or aggression) and internalizing (avoidance or withdrawal).

The psychological implications could be discussed. For example, externalized behaviors . . . may represent a lack of self-control or impulsivity. . ., and internalized behaviors . . . may be a child who is sad or depressed.
Specific labels associated with the externalized/internalized categories and related to other systems could be included. Table 6.2 in the text does this with a comparison to Quay and Petersons system.
