Anorexia nervosa is self-starvation that results in protein-energy malnutrition, and thus anorexia has the same consequences as the PEM associated with food poverty. Energy deficit results in wasting of lean body massmuscles, and eventually organsand this, combined with micronutrient deficiencies, causes malfunctioning of various tissues, organs, and organ systems.
