Hatching: a series of closely spaced, parallel lines that are straight, diagonal or curved. This builds up areas of tonethe closer the lines, the darker the tone.
Scumbling: tiny, overlapping circular scribbling to build up a single color or different colors
Stippling: small dots rather than lines to build up tone
Shading: a side-to-side motion to build up a smooth, even layer of monotone or color.
Directional marks, which follow a contour or direction of a surface. These marks differentiate between linear and curved forms
