Answer to Question 1

C
During the quiet-alert stage, the neonate is most responsive to stimulation. During light-sleep the neonate is either entering deeper sleep or beginning to wake up and not alert. During the active-alert stage, the neonate is not as receptive to stimulation. Awake-alert is not classified as a stage of newborn sleep-wake states.

Answer to Question 2

C, F
The instructor would recognize that clarification is needed if students respond that a change in one family member has no effect on the entire family and that family member's behaviors should be viewed from a lineal perspective. Family systems theories describe an ecological model. Family systems are part of larger suprasystems and are composed of many subsystems. The family as a whole is greater than, and different from, the sum of its parts. A change in one member of the family affects the family as a whole and all the members. Families create a balance between change and stability. Family members' behaviors are better understood from the perspective of circular rather than linear causality.
