Answer: The ideal answer will include:
1. Malinowski studied the kula trading network.
2. Weiner's restudy focused on women's exchange patterns.
3. The restudy revealed that power and prestige are tied to women's, as well as men's, exchanges.
4. In this case Malinowski's focus on men excluded an important component of Trobriand culture.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The ideal answer will include:
1. The Trobriand Islands consist of 22 coral atolls east of the island of New Guinea.
2. Colonized and influenced by the British and Australians, now part of Papua New Guinea.
3. The islanders have traditionally grown much of their own food but are increasingly dependent on money sent from community members working elsewhere in Papua New Guinea.
4. HIV/AIDS has become a major concern to the region.
