Answer to Question 1

Cooling is a significant cost, and the high-temperature superconductors could
save a considerable of energy and money in reduced cooling expenses.

Answer to Question 2

This is contradicted in the book. There are large-scale district systems operating
in Reykjavik, Iceland and Klamath Falls, Oregon. (Reykjavik's system is the largest in the
world, and serves about half of Iceland's people.) The Balova Geothermal District Heating
System in Izmir, Turkey has a current capacity of 8,000 homes, and it is planned to expand
the system to 15,000 homes,
There are more than 21 geothermal district heating systems now operating in the United
States. Reno, Nevada has constructed such a system, and Boise, Idaho alone has four
district heating systems operating. (The Boise Warm Springs Water District, built in 1892,
was the first district heating system in the United States.)
More are planned. For example, Montpelier, Vermont plans to heat city buildings and
revitalize downtown by use of such a system.
