Answer to Question 1

The Clinoril and aspirin both could cause irritation of the gastric mucosa along with an increase in HCl secretion, and thus lead to gastritis. Mrs. CL is obese and the added adipose tissue in the abdominal area, along with overeating expanding the stomach, makes her a candidate for esophageal reflux. Add to this the problem of decreased esophageal motility, and she has a frequent influx of high acid content in the esophagus along with a burning stomach.

Answer to Question 2

Acetylsalicylic acid has antiinflammatory and antipyretic results. Acetylsalicylic causes inflammation of the gastric mucosa while acetaminophen typically does not.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
