Answer to Question 1

3

Rationale: Decreased intake of food and fluid can occur for a variety of reasons and is among the leading causes of unintentional weight loss in the older person. Unmet nutritional needs can jeopardize the nutritional health of the older person. Certain diseases and conditions warrant an increased intake of energy and nutrients because of hypermatabolic effects. Increased nutrient losses contribute to under nutrition when digestions, absorptions, and metabolism of nutrients are compromised because of disease, medications, or alcohol. Older clients experience increased and early satiety because of peptide hormonal changes and the increase in time it takes the stomach to empty.

Answer to Question 2

C
Underwater weighing is considered the gold standard for measuring body fat levels. However, body mass index, triceps skinfold thickness, and bioelectric impedance analysis are often used to estimate body fat levels because they are easier to measure.
