Answer to Question 1

Some individuals who have an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) suffer only from an obsessiona recurring idea, thought, or image that they realize, at least initially, is senseless.

The most common obsessions are these:

Contamination (for example, becoming infected by shaking hands)
Doubt (for example, wondering whether one has performed some act, such as having hurt
someone in a traffic accident)

Most people with OCD also suffer from a compulsion, a repetitive behavior performed according to certain rules or in a stereotyped fashion. The most common compulsions include the following:
 Hand-washing
 Cleaning
 Repeating words silently
 Counting
Checking (for example, making sure dozens of times that a door is locked)
