Answer to Question 2

Continental polar air masses are cold, dry, and stable, while maritime polar air masses are damp and cool. In the winter, the maritime polar air mass will be the warmer of the two, so when it is uplifted over denser air or a mountain range, cloudy weather and precipitation usually yields snow during the winter.
