Answer to Question 1

Outcomes of a fitness program include:
Regular physical activity and exercise helps prevent
weight gain and can facilitate weight loss, decrease risk
of cardiovascular disease, reduce risk of certain types of
cancer, decrease risk of type 2 diabetes, optimize bone
health, and reduce stress.
Muscle strength refers to the maximum force exerted by
muscles during activity. Strength-building activities such
as weightlifting and other resistance-training modalities
can improve muscle strength.
Endurance refers to the ability to exercise for an extended
period of time without becoming fatigued. Sustained
activities such as jogging and swimming can improve
endurance.
Flexibility refers to the range of motion around a joint.
Yoga, stretching, and swimming can improve flexibility.
Body composition refers to the relative amounts of muscle,
fat, and bone in the body. A variety of activities can result in
alterations in body composition. Body fat can be decreased
by engaging in cardiovascular exercise. Muscle mass can be
increased by resistance-training activities. Finally, weight
bearing activities will help to increase bone mass.
