The hormone contacts the target cell and begins a chemical chain reaction within the cell that results in a change in the cell's metabolism or protein synthesis. This can change the function of the cell. When many cells are stimulated to change, an organ, system, or even the entire body may respond, which results in hormonal control of body function.
