Answer to Question 1

Most early concern with stress was directed at physiological symptoms because most researchers were specialists in the health and medical sciences. Their work led to the conclusion that stress could create changes in metabolism, increase heart and breathing rates and blood pressure, bring on headaches, and induce heart attacks. Because symptoms are complex and difficult to measure objectively, the link between stress and particular physiological effects is not clear. Traditionally, researchers concluded there were few, if any, consistent relationships. More recently, evidence suggests stress may have harmful physiological effects. One study linked stressful job demands increase susceptibility to upper respiratory illnesses and poor immune system functioning, especially for individuals with low self-efficacy.

Answer to Question 2

TRUE
