Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 1

Most cultures have ceremonies to celebrate the passage from childhood to adulthood; this practice is a culture universal. However, different cultural groups celebrate this important life event in very different ways. Variations of life passage events such as the bar mitzvah for 13-year-old Jewish boys and the quinceaero party for 15-year-old Hispanic girls are examples of this. Cultural awareness is the conscious and informed recognition of the differences and similarities between varied cultural or ethnic groups. Cultural sensitivity is the respect and appreciation for cultural behaviors based on an understanding of the other person's perspective. Cultural competence is having the knowledge, abilities, and skills to deliver care congruent with the client's cultural beliefs and practices.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 1

The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) developed standards of practice that define holistic nursing practice as a specialty practice that draws upon nursing knowledge, theories, expertise, and intuition to guide nurses in becoming therapeutic partners with clients to strengthen the client's ability to heal. The ANA is the American Nurses Association, this organization has not developed standards of nursing practice for the holistic nurse. The NCCAM is the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine; their mission is to explore complementary and alternative healing practices within the context of rigorous science. The ANCC, American Nurses Credentialing Center, has not defined or developed the standards of nursing practice for the holistic nurse.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
