Answer to Question 1

The MHS administers health care for active members of the uniformed services; the care is provided by military treatment facilities and networks of civilian health care professionals. The VHA provides medical, surgical, and rehabilitative care to veterans of the armed services.

Answer to Question 2

Managed care refers to the prepaid health care sector, which combines health care delivery with the financing of health care services, as well as preferred provider organizations and some forms of indemnity coverage that incorporates utilization management activities.
