Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

As saltating sand grains encounter small patches of sand, their kinetic energy is dissipated and they accumulate. As the accumulations continues to develop, increasing to heights above 30 cm (12 in), a slipface and characteristic dune features form.

Dunes are typically asymmetrical in or or more directions. Winds characteristically create a gently sloping windward (stoss) side and a steeper slipface on the leeward side. The angle of the slipface is the steepest angle at which loose material is stable (i.e. the angle of repose).

Dunes are generally classified according to three general shapes: crescentic, linear, and star.
