Digestion requires moisture for the breakdown of nutrients and the movement of feed through the digestive tract. Water provides the basis for all fluid in an animal's body. Water is also needed to produce milk. It provides cells with the pressure that allows them to maintain their shape, and it helps the body maintain a constant temperature. Another vital function of water is flushing the animal's body of wastes and toxic materials.
