There is a maternal transfer of antibodies through:

1 . Transport across the placenta
2 . Transfer in the first milk or colostrum with the antibodies passing through the intestinal wall of the newborn before this becomes a barrier
3 . Transfer to the chick embryo through ingestion of the yolk, which contains appreciable amounts of antibodies
