Answer to Question 1

Short-term gain does not mean long-term success. While the company has
remained profitable during the course of the boycott, the real damage many not
be known for years. However, Nestl has damaged relations with various publics
that may very well play an important role in its future success -- such as potential
employees and government regulators.

Answer to Question 2

The prestige of the presidency clearly benefited the fund-raising efforts,
especially when the president was as popular as Roosevelt. However, the blurring
of the line between politics and charity is not without some risk. In the
atmosphere of the 1930s, the media were not as aggressive in exploring the links
between charitable contributions and political favors as they are today. Even the
perception of an improper relationship could undermine the credibility of the
charity.
