Second, she was charged with capital murder, meaning she could have received the death penalty if convicted. Very few homicides are death-penalty eligible. Third, her case went to trial, rather than being plea-bargained like 90-95 percent of all felony cases. Fourth, Casey Anthony was acquitted at trial, when the overall conviction rate at trial is around 90 percent.
