ANSWER: A child first learns to read the symbols that have meaningsuch as a stop sign, the McDonalds logo, or cereal logoslong before they actually can decode the letters that make up the word.

ANSWER: Books in abundance, labels, childrens names, writing materials in every play/work area, charts, song charts
