Description: The water potential of a plant cell, which predicts the direction of water movement into or out of a cell, can be simplified as the sum of the solute potential and the pressure potential resulting from pressure exerted by the cell wall–plasma membrane complex. Examples of water potential calculations are shown for a turgid cell, a plasmolyzed cell, and a flaccid cell.
