Description: The central nervous system is similar in vertebrates as distantly related as (a) humans and (b) frogs. It consists of the brain and spinal cord, both of which are encased in bone (not shown). The peripheral nervous system includes cranial nerves, ganglia, and spinal nerves, which carry information to and from the CNS, and many other neurons throughout the body.
