Intussusception and volvulus of the intestine
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: (a) In an intussusception, the intestine folds back on itself in the same way that one part of a telescope slides into the other. (b) In a volvulus, the intestine becomes twisted. Both of these conditions stop peristalsis and blood flow and can lead to tissue death.
