Description: All three cell types in step 1 recognize the same antigen. Helper T cells secrete cytokines that activate B cells and cytotoxic T cells, as indicated by the plus (+) symbol. Both B cells and T cells undergo cell division to form clones when activated, and in both cases a portion of the cells are set aside as memory cells to fight off a future infection of the same type.
