Description: This colorized computerized axial tomography (CT) scan shows the abdominal organs and the kidneys. The bottom center of the image shows the patient’s spinal column, and areas around both sides are the patient’s ribs. The top of the image is the patient’s abdomen. The abdominal organs will seem to you to be in an abnormal, reversed position, unless you understand that a CT scan is read as if you were at the patient’s feet and looking up. Therefore, the patient’s liver (light and dark blue) lies along the left-hand side of the image. The patient’s right kidney (which is on the left-hand side of the image) is enlarged from a cancerous tumor. The patient’s left kidney shows two large cysts.
